NOTES ON WILD COAST SLIDES.

All photographs were taken on Agfa color slide film in 1964 by:

George F. Hart,

At that time:

Director of Microstratigraphy Research Unit,

University of Witwatersrand,

Johannesburg.

MASTER SET:

In order to preserve the images that were deteriorating they were scanned as .tiff files onto a computer hard drive during March and April, 1999 using a Polaroid SprintScan 35/LE. The scan resolution was 1440 dpi and they were scanned for an Epson Stylus Color 600/1440 dpi printer using high quality glossy paper. The exceptions were slides WC809-WC819 which were scanned at a resolution of 1200 dpi for a Lexmark 1000, using 600 dpi high resolution ink jet paper. All slides were scaled to 100%. The image size of slide WC801 is 1.300 by 0.852 inches. All other slides maintained the approximate width.

SLAVE SET:

The .tiff images were read into PhotoShop and saved as .jpg files for the initial production CD. It is hoped that at a later date the .tiff files will be cleaned and restored to something approaching their original quality. Unfortunately, they were stored in non-climate controlled storage in Louisiana for two years.

The initial production CD has the images and files stored under D-drive, directories WCPhotos, WCNews, WCMaps. The text assumes the CD is the D-drive. If it is not the drive should be temporarily re-assigned to D: for the images to appear.

The image number is keyed to original numbers used in the photo-archive books of GFH.
