SHAKA

None of the Nguni tribes of south eastern Africa were able to avoid the influence of the zulu king Shaka, although the main influences were north of Xhosa country. Complete tribes vanished and in the destructive center the culture of others was changed forever. The rule of the zulu kings introduced zulu culture everywhere in south eastern Africa. A whole new tribe … the Fingo [Mfengu] … arose as a result of immigrant refugees from the ravishes of the zulu empire. At the beginning of the 19th century they moved south of the Umzimkulu River into the region of the Xhosa and the european colonists.
